Interim Moderator's Letter February 2012

Jim Teasdale
Dear Friends,
As I sit writing this towards the end of January, I must admit that once again I have not managed to keep many of my well intentioned New Year’s resolutions. I wonder if you have managed to keep any that you made.
At the beginning of a new year, many of us make resolutions. These are generally good intentions or real promises that we make, trying to bring improvements in the year ahead for us and for others.
A few weeks ago I joined our Boys’ Brigade Company on their first night of 2012. Mr Walker was talking to the boys about resolutions and thought I would share some new resolutions that he introduced, with you that you could begin this February.
So here are what looks like some strange resolutions - I suggest you take on; LIE, CHEAT, DRINK, SWEAR and STEAL more than you did last year. Now before you think that I have gone mad let me explain!
LIE back in church as often as you can, and soak up God’s WORD for you.
CHEAT failure, guilt and fear. Don't be afraid to try something new because you think you may fail or be inadequate, and deal with your guilt, or anything which holds you back from reaching up to God. It is through failure that we often learn valuable lessons and grow to become richer for it.
DRINK from the fountain of knowledge. Many people around you have already been down paths you are travelling on. Learn from mistakes they have made. Take what they have learned and use it wisely. Read your Bible every day, talk to and listen for what God has to say to you every day.
SWEAR to do your best - always and in every situation. By being obedient to God - this becomes easier over time if we “hunger and thirst for righteousness”.
STEAL a little time for God. Everyday take a little more time to develop your relationship with God. Time is finite for us on earth, and no one knows how many more years, months or days we will enjoy.
So, if you lie, cheat, drink, swear and steal more of these things during the rest 2012, you will surely see God bless you. May all associated with St Columba’s spend the rest of 2012 and the years to come getting to know our God more intimately than ever before.
Your friend and interim moderator,
Jim Teasdale
